William Continelli W2XOY (SK) was in lower Manhattan for business on September 11, 2001.
He recorded his account of trying to get out of lower Manhattan and back to his home outside the city and the chaos that occurred.
He never discussed the actual events other than describing the situation as “horrifying”.
He brought along his radio bag, with shortwave, AM/FM radio, and scanners and HTs for ham radio and was able to monitor energy services during the event.
Bill’s story will be remembered as a tribute to emergency preparedness with equipment and communications allowing him to coordinate a way out of Manhattan without having to walk many miles out of the city.
