Tens of thousands of people descended on Boston yesterday for one of the most recognized marathons in the country, but not all of them are runners.
Four HAM radio users from the Hoosier Lakes Radio Club in Warsaw, Brian Sexton, Bryon Wells, Greg Shafer, and Matthew Carter, said this isn’t just a marathon; it’s a way for them to put their skills to the test.
They’re part of the Boston Marathon Emergency Communications Team, which works to ensure athletes stay safe.
“It keeps everybody connected, all the way through the course,” Shafer said.
“When someone does have a medical emergency, and you’re the one calling for that ambulance, and calling for that medic, that doctor, that nurse, whatever to come treat that person,” Sexton said.
These four men were among just 300 people chosen from 3,500 applicants, and the only ones from Indiana.
