Earlier today, the sun hurled a plume of relatively cool, dark plasma into space. Traveling faster than 1.3 million mph, the plume tore through the sun’s atmosphere, producing a CME that could sideswipe Earth later this week. Minor to moderate geomagnetic storms are possible beginning Aug. 17th.
