XENIA, Ohio (WKEF) – Hamvention is back after a two-year hiatus, this year’s theme is a reunion.
It’s really a celebration, the world of hams together again at the Greene County Fairgrounds and Expo Center in Xenia.
Organizers were setting up early on Thursday and getting excited about the festivities.
Ham radio plays a big part in emergency and public service communication, and it’s even a part of the international space station.
Michael Kalter attended his very first Hamvention just shy of two years old, he said it’s a thrill to be involved.
“There’s really a spirit of camaraderie among the men and women in amateur radio throughout the world,” Kalter said. “For example, we get on the radio and we may talk about lots of different things but when you’re talking to somebody from another country becomes really fascinating to find out more about their culture, and about how these people live. And when you talk to them two or three times or four times or a little bit more you become friends with them.”
