Michael Wehnert OZ5WU, of the National Executive Committee of Denmark’s IARU member society the EDR, has written an article ‘The future is knocking‘
Denmark’s EDR was an active participant at last year’s IARU Region 1 Workshop that sought to lay the foundations for a radical strategic change of course in Region 1 and its national societies.
The article is published on EDR’s website, regarding some national amateur radio societies in Region 1 he says:
“… many national associations that all suffer from the same disease: rigid conservative systems, declining membership and a completely wrong age distribution. All parts are pure poison if we want to preserve “The World’s Best Hobby” in many European countries, and YES, Denmark and EDR are one of the countries that are severely affected by the disease, unfortunately.”
Regarding the demographic of EDR staff he says:
“The administration of the EDR cannot continue to function as we know it today, even though it works perfectly for the time being. In a few years’ time, the current staff will be on early retirement. When this happens, another solution must have been found”
On the attitude of some radio amateurs in the organisation:
“I would like to say a word to those forces in the EDR that have splintered any attempt at innovation in the past: please accept that the EDR must move on NOW. You should have a good time at 80m with some radio and some concoctions. Now let younger forces develop the union in peace.”
