The Namibia Scientific Society (NSS) is set to host a groundbreaking event, facilitating the first-ever Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact.
The public is invited to witness the live communication event on 9 October from 11:15 to 13:00, which will take place at the Windhoek Afrikaanse Privaatskool in Eros.
Tickets are essential for attendance and are priced at N$100 for adults and N$50 for children under 18. Tickets will be available for purchase exclusively on the NSS website starting October 3rd at 16:00 and closing on October 7th at 16:00.
The organizers noted that no late payments or payments on the day of the event will be accepted.
The Society said for the first time in the country, local students will have the opportunity to connect directly with astronauts aboard the International Space Station via amateur (‘ham’) radio.
“As the International Space Station (ISS) passes overhead, students will ask questions live to the crew on board. This rare and historic moment brings space exploration closer to Namibia’s youth and inspires new possibilities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM),” they added.
They explained that because this event relies on a live ISS connection within a very short orbit window, technical issues may arise, and a connection may not be established and tickets are not refundable.
