10-4 Boy Scouts: Local amateur radio club helps scouts participate in event (Minnesota)

Local Boy Scout troops are going to have an opportunity to be part of something really big. On Oct. 21, Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) will pair the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and the Lake Region Amateur Radio Club to participate in the largest scouting event in the world.

Held annually the third weekend in October, JOTA is open to Boy Scouts of all ages and to both boys and girls. It teaches the art of communication without using a cell phone or computer. “JOTA uses amateur radio to link scouts and hams around the world, around the nation and in your own community,” the BSA website says.

According to the World Scout Bureau, over 1.5 million scout participants from more than 160 countries were included in 2017.
