Amateur Radio Military Appreciation Day, also known as ARMAD and observed on May 27 this year, is an annual holiday on which amateur radio operators from around the world collaborate to allow members of different communities to congregate in public places (such as a Walmart, public park, or football game). Over a two-way radio, community members express verbal and real-time support for military personnel and those affiliated with the military (veterans, coalition forces, first responders, and military support organisations). Members of the military are able to hear and sense the gratitude of the community. It is a chance to publicly and verbally honour those on the front lines.
HISTORY OF AMATEUR RADIO MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY
The history of the American military can be traced back to June 14, 1775, when the Continental Army was established. In order to defend the region during the American Revolutionary War, the Second Continental Congress created the Continental Navy on October 13, 1775, and the Continental Marines on November 10, 1775.
The Treaty of Paris, which ended the conflict for independence, led to the demobilisation of these armed forces. The Congress of the Confederation established the modern United States Army on June 3, 1784. The United States Navy was established on March 27, 1794, and the Marine Corps was established on July 11, 1798. Adoption of the Constitution in 1787 granted the United States Congress the authority to “raise and support armies, provide and maintain a navy, and make rules for the government and regulation of land and naval forces,” as well as declare war.
