“While November Hurricanes do occur, those that make landfall are rare,” said HWN Manager Bobby Graves, KB5HAV. “Over the past few days, the National Hurricane Center has been expecting a tropical system to form in the southwestern Caribbean. Early this morning, Tropical Depression 16 developed about 300 mi (480 km) east of Bluefields, Nicaragua. By 1800 UTC, the depression was upgraded to Tropical Storm Otto.”
As of 2100 UTC Otto had maximum sustained winds of 50 MPH and was stationary. It is forecast to reach Category 1 status by 1800 UTC on November 23. Interests in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and the islands of San Andres and Providencia should monitor this storm’s progress.
