Reserve sheriff’s deputy dies during World Police and Fire Games (California)

A reserve deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department died Friday during a mountain bike race at the World Police and Fire Games, authorities said.

Jacob Castroll, 67 [listed in QRZ as KI6VCS], a reserve at the Malibu/Lost Hills station since July 2010, was found unresponsive on the Castaic bike course and taken to a Valencia hospital, where he died about 11:15 a.m., authorities said.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office is investigating the cause of death, said sheriff’s Sgt. Tui Wright of the Lost Hills station.
